The Hearth: About Us

Welcome to Mind Your Neck, a non-commercial Second Life blog run by a very nerdy queer couple with a vampire fixation. Our main focus is shared storytelling, visual art, photography, and a variety of other dark and spiritually fulfilling miscellany.

Rest easy, look at the fire, and stay a while. Perhaps forever.

Who We Are

Every end is a new beginning, and every shadow holds a spark of light.

Hello! I’m Rem. I’m here to steal your pronouns and write about vampires. Or, more specifically, I'm a nonbinary, queer, autistic hobbyist designer, writer, and general cultivator of whimsy.

My first adventure in Second Life was around eight years ago… and I was so overwhelmed that I quit outright.

A little over a year ago I came back and conceived Remere, who has allowed me to express myself, my gender identity, and all the weird things my funky little neurodivergent brain can come up with. Mind Your Neck is intended to be a space where I can share stories my wife and I come up with together, infodump about vampire lore, share photography, and perhaps share an oracle reading or two.

Speaking of my wife…

It's me, the wife. You can call me Fern. I'm a queer woman who loves all things magic and fantasy. Like Rem, I was also overwhelmed by Second Life when I first explored it a few years back.

During 2025, I gave Second Life another chance. Alongside my spouse's conception of Remere, I made Alexis. I didn't expect much to unfold; all I wanted was to write with my partner, just like we did when we first met. This endeavor has become something so much more than simple RP. It has taught us so many things about ourselves—how we connect, how we perceive the world, how we communicate—and our love has grown stronger for it.

And who knows? Maybe by sharing our adventures, we can inspire a pair of storytellers like ourselves to fall in love all over again, too.

Our stance on Generative AI.

We firmly believe Generative AI has no place in the world of creative writing or visual arts. While it may be remarkable in its technical capabilities and help people in certain ways, it drains our planet of valuable resources and steals the intellectual property of the people that bring magic to the world.

On this blog, you'll find nothing written by AI. The em dash is lovingly reclaimed by my wife, who had their favorite piece of punctuation gracelessly taken from them by our evil robot overlords.

The post that follows this one will offer insight into the magical world of our own making. And those that follow? You'll just have to wait and see.
